I discovered Stefan Sagmeister’s inspirational TED talk this week and wanted to share it with you. His message is simple, clear, and very insightful.
Realistically, many of us cannot afford to take a year off, but Stefan offers practical concepts that we can utilize in our own lives. I’m keen on how to apply these concepts, especially since I’m in the middle of work on my second manuscript.
My work is important to me and I feel that taking a sabbatical right now would be a mistake. But I’m currently grappling with a few things in the plot, so perhaps a short sabbatical is what I need.
Then there are the other writing assignments I want to submit. I’m anxious to get these queries out and if I wait any longer, someone is going to take my place. Do you ever feel this way too? And with all the communication aspect that many of us use with daily email, well it makes it seem nearly impossible for us to disconnect.
Maybe this is what I need to take time off and go on an internet fast for a week.
Rest is good for the soul.
